Hypar shade structures are a freeform structure generally with cabled edges. Hypars have four attachment points with differing heights to give the sail a 3D form essential for maintaining prestress and longevity of the sail structure.

Configurations include free standing four column, two columns and attachments to buildings or partial struts back to buildings. Continuous strapped edges can be used to waterproof seal the fabric against a building above doors etc. Hypars are commonly used vertically for privacy screening. Arranged in succession multiple hypars can be used to create a “sawtooth” appearance. Just about any size or shape is possible.

O’DONNELL ST RESERVE  –  BONDI

A series of 3 centre column Hypar shade structures designed, manufactured and installed by Shade to Order for Waverly Council at O’Donnell St Reserve, Bondi.

The brief was to have a safe, shaded and weatherproof area for the children to play whilst keeping the play equipment cool and safe. Also providing the parents with a comfortable shaded area to sit, whilst being an aesthetically appealing sanctuary for families in the local area.

Shade to Order have created an attractive yet functional area. Positioned only 500m from the water’s edge, the area experiences high winds. Our engineered and robust shade structures were required and will withstand cyclonic winds, lasting decades. No compromise should be taken with shade structures, especially when there are children playing underneath.

These shade structures when coupled with a fantastic playground create a colourful and happy place for residents and visitors to frequent in the outdoors. The shade sails promote a healthy environment for family and friends to stay warmer in the winter months, cooler in the summer months and dry all year round, a perfect excuse to embrace the outdoors with a picnic or BBQ.
